SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico—April 21, 2009—s3mer |?str?m?r| Inc. announced today (http://is.gd/tBkz) the immediate availability of Google Gears technology on it’s web based digital signage application.

Gears is an open source project backed by Google that enables more powerful web applications, by adding new features to web browsers. One of the modules included in the project is LocalServer. This module allows to cache and serve application resources (HTML, JavaScript, images, etc.) locally.

“Gears will enable s3mer to work as fast as a native application, much faster than what people are used to see in a browser. Users will be able to make changes and interact with the admin app much faster.” said Giovanni Collazo co-founder and president of s3mer Inc.

Users that have Gears already installed on their browser will be asked automatically by the site to enable this enhancement. Users that do not have Gears installed can go to their settings page and install it from there or just go to http://gears.google.com/ and install from there.

s3mer is a modern and cross-platform digital signage software that’s easy to use and maintain. s3mer offers three products s3mer free, s3mer pro and s3mer enterprise.

s3mer pro digital signage solution is delivered as a service (SaaS – Software as a service). Customers will pay $60 usd a month for each pro player in their account. s3mer pro can play many kinds of media including HD video and high resolution images. Also within a s3mer pro show you can have video podcasts, flash animations, local video sources like a DVD player or a TV antenna and even HTML content. The addition of the HTML object opens the door for web developers to produce data rich content using common web technologies like javascript, ajax and css. Also on these version users will have the capability to use only one computer to display two discreet signs, lowering the hardware costs for installations where more than one media player is required.

s3mer enterprise contains all of the features of the pro version but with one key difference. It’s not provided via the SaaS model, instead it’s licensed to businesses. This product consists of two pieces of software: s3mer server and s3mer enterprise player. Pricing will be quoted on a case-by-case basis.
